Why You Need to Watch This Podcast: The Gut Health Truth Most Indians Are Ignoring

I have been a sports nutritionist for over 20 years. In that time, I have seen the same pattern in almost every client who walks into my Bangalore clinic. They come in for weight loss, energy, performance, or skin issues. But scratch the surface, and the real problem is almost always the gut.

That is why I sat down with Dr Parameshwara CM, one of India's leading colorectal surgeons and the founder of Smiles Institute of Gastroenterology. What he told me on this podcast genuinely shook me. And I have spent two decades inside this field.

If you have ever felt embarrassed to talk about your gut, this episode is for you.

Why this podcast on gut health is different for India

Most gut health podcast content for India online is fluff. Generic tips. Recycled advice. This podcast goes into the room nobody wants to enter, the actual surgical reality of what is happening inside Indian bodies right now.

Dr Parameshwara is not an influencer. He is a surgeon who has operated on thousands of patients. He is sharing what he sees on the operating table, not what looks good on Instagram.

What you will learn

The numbers nobody is telling you. 44% of Indians have lifestyle constipation. 36% are silently dealing with piles, fissures, or fistulas. 78% of colorectal cancers in India are diagnosed only in late stages, when very little can be done. These are not statistics from a foreign journal. This is happening in your colony, your office, possibly in your own family.

Why colorectal cancer is now killing Indians under 50. Dr Parameshwara explains exactly why this cancer is rising so fast in younger Indians, and why our food culture shift after 1991 is one of the biggest culprits. The youngest patient he has operated on was 23 years old.

The taboo that is costing lives. I asked him bluntly why Indians refuse to get checked. His answer surprised me. He talks about the 1.5 million quacks operating in India today, the bizarre treatments they are doing including bullock horns, betelnut paste, and silver rings, and why even doctors and their own family members fall for it.

What every mother needs to know. One out of every two Indian mothers who have had a normal delivery is silently suffering from a condition almost no one is diagnosing correctly. If you are a mother, or you have one, this section alone is worth your time.

The truth about your toilet habits. Why taking your phone to the bathroom is wrecking your gut. What "bathroom camping" is doing to your pelvic floor. Why your child sitting on the toilet for 30 minutes is not laziness, it is a medical signal you are missing.

Children are not safe either. Inflammatory bowel disease in Indian children has gone from 0.25% to 5% of the population in just 25 years. One in four cases now is in kids. I see this in my own clinic. Pizza, burgers, no fibre, no movement. We are raising a generation with broken guts.

The part that hit me hardest

Dr Parameshwara shared a case of a young IPS officer fighting for her life right now because her abdominal pain during pregnancy was dismissed as "just the baby moving." It was colon cancer.

A simple bleed can be cancer. Constipation can be cancer. Alternating loose motion and constipation can be cancer. Most doctors take 2 minutes to dismiss these symptoms with a syrup or a powder.

Early detection is everything. 95% of stage one colorectal cancers are completely curable. That number drops dramatically by stage three.

What you will walk away with

By the end of this conversation, you will know:

The difference between piles, fissures, and fistulas, and why most people get all three confused. The exact warning signs that mean you need a colonoscopy now, not next year. Why the foods you grew up with, ragi, jowar, bajra, fresh curd, are still the best gut medicine you will ever find. The truth about protein powders and why they are landing young Indians in surgical wards. What I personally do for my own gut, and what Dr Parameshwara does for his.

My honest message to you

Your body is the most expensive real estate you will ever own. The gut is the most important room in that house. You can decorate it with junk and pay the price for 30 years, or you can listen to two people who have spent their entire careers studying it.

This podcast is not light listening. It is honest, sometimes uncomfortable, and packed with information your doctor probably will not tell you in a 2-minute consultation.

Watch it. Send it to your parents. Send it to your spouse. Send it to that one friend who has been avoiding their bleeding problem for two years.

Same poop, different day is actually one of the best things you can wish for someone you love.
