Red eyes = Conjunctivitis? Not always
We’ve all been there, you catch your reflection and boom, red eyes! First thought? Oh no, conjunctivitis. But do we actually know what causes it, how it spreads, or even how to treat it safely?
In this reel, Dr Rahil Chaudhary; the best eye doctor in Delhi breaks it all down. Conjunctivitis is basically an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin transparent layer over your eyes. It’s often called ‘eye flu’ for a reason and is highly contagious.
According to Dr. Rahil Chaudhary, the most common way it spreads is when one rubs their eyes, then shakes hands, and boom - you’re a carrier. But don’t panic and buy antibiotics just yet. Misusing medicines can cause more harm than good. For proper precaution and surprising facts about your eyes, check out our full episode with Dr. Rahil Chaudhary on YouTube.
Can Carrots and Greens really improve vision
Ever since college, I stand by the fact that carrots, amla, and beetroots have helped in better eyesight. But I needed to know for certain - so I flung the question across to Dr. Rahil Chaudhary; and his answer?
Yes, greens, carrots, nuts, and vitamins A, E, and Lutein are great for maintaining strong eye health. But no, they're not a miracle cure. If you’re dealing with real conditions, no salad will replace a trained eye specialist.
Still Dr. Rahil Chaudhary says a balanced diet does play a huge role in keeping your vision sharp over the years, and that's a habit worth sticking to.
Three Tips Everyone Should Follow to keep their eyes healthy
When I asked him for three tips to keep my eyes healthy, I thought it would be a little baffling for him and would take at least a few minutes to give me an answer. But no! HIs answer was simpler than ever - visit the doctor, visit the doctor, visit the doctor!
Dr. Rahil Chaudhary emphasises how much easier it is to visit an eye doctor in India, compared to the US or UK. And we really should take advantage of this.
The ages and timeline you should follow should be:
At Birth
Age 3
Age 8
Each academic year in high school
After the age of 40 - Annually
You have redness? You’re feeling a little itchy, what about blurriness? Don’t wait, get it checked immediately. That is an order from one of the best doctors in India.
Now there are many more tips and discussions we had during the podcast, but that you can catch on YouTube, but if you want to just listen to it, head over to my Spotify and you’ll be able to listen to the full podcast. I would also not like to spoil any of what is there in the episode, and I had a great time listening to his experiences throughout his life, and even his expertise in his field of being an eye specialist and an eye surgeon, just to add, a world record holder as well!
We got a lot of questions answered and many more myths busted. I would always welcome a specialist in any field to sit down with me, and have small discussions on various topics and get their expertise on a few head itching questions that everyone wants solved. If you liked what you saw above, a small trailer is to what takes place on my podcast’s you’d definitely want to tune in.
